As the leader of Helpful’s technical team, Phil sets the development processes which mean we deliver secure, semantic and sensible code to power our clients’ websites.
Phil takes a holistic approach to web development. He believes that a website doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Instead, a website should be informed by, and work in coordination with, other channels – as well as business, staff and user needs.
For Helpful, Phil has developed elegant and effective digital solutions for a range of clients, including the FCO, Grantham Research Institute and the British Antarctic Survey.
He joined Helpful in 2015 after a wide range of roles in both the public and private sectors. These included lead web developer at the Medical Research Council (MRC). There, he built and helped maintain the organisation’s main website, as well as the intranet and several micro-sites. He also provided support and development for the WordPress sites of MRC units around the world.
Phil has a BSc in Biological Sciences, and is the best-dressed developer you’re likely to meet.
Phil’s digital interests and specialisms include:
- Network and web infrastructure
- User experience
- Web performance and semantics
