Perhaps you\u2019re leading on internal communications and planning for redundancy issues, or managing a large site where staff and customer safety has changed dramatically.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You and your team &#8211; like many of those we\u2019re working with &#8211; are probably exhausted from this draining and painful period. But, now is the time for honest and structured reflection.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Why? So that you can plot a path forward, safe in knowledge that you can replicate and build on the things you\u2019ve done well, and the same mistakes won\u2019t be made again.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re working with clients to deliver virtual <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/helpfuldigital.com\/fr\/learning-from-covid-and-preparing-for-the-future\/\">After Action Review workshops<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>.<\/strong> These help them to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify the changes they need to make to risk registers, structures and responsibilities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan for new skills and capability<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get ready for organisational changes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re trusted partners to our clients. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This gives us a unique opportunity to guide teams through reflection and evaluation that might otherwise feel awkward or difficult. And to do it before valuable experience and knowledge fades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are the key elements for a constructive, honest, review:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Make time for a \u2018retro\u2019<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you can plan a way forward, you need to look back. This could be a simple as asking What worked well? What could have been better? Perhaps structured around key objectives or assessing different communications channels. As part of our preparation for a workshop, we\u2019ll do our own in-depth analysis of a team\u2019s performance using a range of benchmarking criteria, before then asking them to evaluate themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s key is to create an environment in which your team feels that it can give an open and honest assessment. This is easiest with some independent facilitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2. Test future scenarios<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditionally, crisis retros move straight from the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">forward planning<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stages. We use our private, interactive <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/socialsimulator.com\">Social Simulator<\/a><\/strong> to give the client team an opportunity to apply their lessons learned and start to think about what they would need to do differently next time. This simulation provides an effective bridge between the \u2018what worked\u2019 and \u2018what didn\u2019t\u2019 and means you can move forward having tested ideas in a realistic environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve identified what worked, what didn\u2019t and what needs to do be done differently, it\u2019s easier to devise an action plan for change and recovery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>3. Put lessons learned into practice<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the key output from any retro workshop. Knowing your vulnerabilities is useful, but you need a detailed action plan to ensure that you can implement change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your action plan should be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>As specific as possible.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Don\u2019t settle for phrases such as \u2018shorten approvals process\u2019.
